It made me even more proud to be an American to read of the bravery and commitment of those who put their life on the line to go through the rigorous training necessary and to execute missions against unbelievable odds to secure freedom for America and the world. This went on for some years, until he met his sweetheart, Kelley, whom he married, had a son and eventually a daughter, and was guided into the service.
I don't want to throw out too many spoilers to the story, but I think that it needs to be mentioned that he became a part of Seal Team 6 (on the highest tier of the US military - the top 1% as they say), with only his left eye and left hand functioning. I started it on a whim in bed when I couldn’t sleep because it was readily available to borrow on the Libby app from my library.Reading this as a father of a one year old and a three month old, i can't help tearing up especially towards the end of the book.
I do offer a word of caution though: this book touches extensively on Brown and his family's Christian faith. Trinny Woodall founded Trinny London in 2017 with one purpose - to give everyone the tools they need to feel their best.
Brown's journey to the top tier of military excellence is the story of a small-town American boy with a penchant for recklessness, an addiction to hard drugs, and a complete lack of fear. Ever since I was a kid, I cherished dreams of joining the Marines or Navy SEALs, just to prove to myself that I was powerful and capable. Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina.
